PRODUCTION MANAGER/PRODUCTION SHIFT SUPERVISOR (NCP Solutions, LLC Birmingham Production Facility)

SUMMARY: The individual sought for this position will direct and coordinate production activities in a high volume-print/mail and finishing/print fulfillment environment. Strong production management, staff management, and intuitive skills are sought to facilitate smooth production operations and initiate/recommend changes for efficiency in the manufacturing process.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties will be assigned, as needed:

  1. Interpret company policies and procedures to workers and enforce safety regulations.

  2. Interpret specifications and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.

  3. Establish and adjust work procedures to meet production schedules.

  4. Inspect products to verify conformance to specifications and direct setup and adjustments of machines.

  5. Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of products.

  6. Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department and work crew.

  7. Analyze and resolve work problems and assist workers in solving work issues.

  8. Initiate and suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.

  9. Maintain time, attendance and production records.

  10. Confer with other supervisors/managers to coordinate activities of individual departments.

  11. Review production orders or schedules to ascertain product data such as types, quantities, and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations.

  12. Plan production operations, establishing priorities and sequences for manufacturing products.

  13. Prepare operational schedules and coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure that production and quality of products meets specifications.

  14. Review production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.

  15. Inspect machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization.


  16. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position could manage a minimum of 15 to potentially more than 50 employees in assigned production areas. This individual is responsible for the overall direction and coordination of the area. The production manager/supervisor carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies, procedures, and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Previous supervisory experience required. Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; minimum three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required (appropriate experience/tenure may be substituted for a completed degree). Experience in the print/mail industry or in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS/MATHEMATICAL SKILLS/ REASONING ABILITY: Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos in the required language(s). Ability to effectively present information one-on-one and in small group situations. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to account for all documents processed and shipped. Personal computer shills with standard PC software including Word, Excel. Access and other Microsoft Suite products, as well as working with Outlook and other standard programs.

Also, while performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and/or airborne dust &/or paper particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually elevated. All direct reports will be working in a manufacturing production environment including working around various types of mechanical equipment or in areas where industrial lift trucks are used.
